Description: Digital twin is emerging as the new paradigm of digital transformation with a focus on end user or problem solving. Digital twin is envisioned to automatically replicate a problem, predict what could happen, and test solutions with what-if answering capabilities. While it is an established concept and field in engineering domains, it is quite a challenge to implement the vision in the geospatial domain due to the large uncertainty and trust issues in engaging communities for societal benefits. There are fundamental challenges to be investigated from geospatial cyberinfrastructure to community decision making. We invited five experts from the domain to introduce the concept, a national study, automation, GeoAI, transportation, and ethics, trust and uncertainty perspectives. We expect this to setup a foundation for the geography community to adopt digital twin to integrate and bring geographical research to address real world problems.
